Daniel Maton crosses the finish line first for Camas in the 800-meter state championship race Saturday, at Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma. Cade Greseth follows in fourth place for the Papermakers. Camas and Washougal high school athletes had a state championship weekend to remember in Richland, Spokane, Seattle and Tacoma. Here are the highlights.
Daniel Maton captured two state championship track medals for the Papermakers. On Thursday, the sophomore won the 1,600-meter title with a school record time of 4 minute, 11.24 seconds. On Saturday, Maton kicked to first place at the finish line in the 800 with a time of 1:53.46. CHS senior Cade Greseth followed in fourth place with a time of 1:54.4.
Madison Peffers broke her school record with a high jump of 5 feet, 6 inches. She also secured the state championship with that leap, before closing out a “dream season” with three attempts at 5-8. Peffers is a junior, which gives her another year to soar even higher for the Papermakers.
