Thrilling State Championship Races

The 4A boys state cross country race featured the most exciting finish between Ryan Kline, of Central Valley in Spokane, and Daniel Maton, of Camas, Saturday, at the Sun Willows Golf Course, in Pasco. Kline clinched the championship with a time of 15:11.3. Maton tumbled across the finish line in 15:11.5.

The Camas High School cross country runners brought home two team trophies from the state championship meet Saturday, at the Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Emma Jenkins, Camryn Mock, Halle Jenkins, Madison Child, Ellie Postma, Jenna Lukowiak and Brooke Roy led the Papermaker girls team to second place. Daniel Maton, David Connell, Spencer Twyman, Jackson Lyne, LJ Floyd, Sam Geiger and Luke Utheza helped the Papermaker boys team finish in fourth place. Read more at the CW Post Record

Chang Wins BioScience Competition

CHS/MST Magnet junior Monica Chang competed Monday, 10/30/17, in the Oregon BioScience Association Showcase Fast Pitch competition. She won the event out of the ten finalists! Check out the video where she has two minutes to “pitch” the work she’s done in conjunction with the Sorg Lab at WSU-V to more than 200 BioScience professionals attending the Oregon BioScience Showcase at the OMSI Empirical Theater. Gymnast Flips Into Diving

“I’ve been doing gymnastics for like 12, 13 years,” said Purwins, who is a two-time Columbian All-Region gymnast who placed third on the uneven bars and fourth in the all-around at the Class 4A state meet last February. The streaks are over, but we can still celebrate them … at least one more time. Congrats again Papermakers for this incredible run of excellence.

I wrote this on Twitter the other night, but here are a few more thoughts on The Streaks, and how being at most of all of the big games through the years has been one of the highlights of my career.

I was there the last time the Papermakers lost a league game, back in 2009, when Union scored, recovered an onside kick, and scored again to steal the 3A GSHL title in Week 9.

I was there the last time the Papermakers lost a game in the regular season, when Skyview, then the class of the Class 4A GSHL, beat Camas, the top team in the 3A GSHL, in 2011. Read more at Clark County TODAY.com
