Camas High School Parents and Fans,
What an exciting time of the year. The 2015-16 school year is underway, which means the start of Papermaker Athletics is not far behind! I am grateful to have the opportunity to lead the CHS Athletic program and there is no question in my mind that this school year will be full of exciting victories and great accomplishments. The team-leading 17 goals he scored this spring for Camas was evidence of the soccer skill Bennett Lehner has developed. “It was cool being a captain as a junior,” Lehner said. “I was a little intimidated at the beginning of the year with the seniors and how they would take it. She was supposed to be the 2 in the 1-2 punch of Camas softball last year, one of the top pitchers in the region even if another one was a senior on her team. Camas pitcher Katie Schroeder talks about her senior season, which saw the Papermakers finish fourth in state. Her video interview can be seen here. Camas’ Brian Humphreys couldn’t have started his career any better. Taking advantage of it being on his home course Camas Meadows, Humphreys took home the boys state title with a 70 and a 74 two years ago. Our Lady Papermakers scored 45 points to place 3rd overall in the STATE 4A Track and Field Championships this weekend! The ladies had two STATE CHAMPIONS – Nikki Corbett in the Discus who also placed 6th in the Shot Put; Caleigh Lofstead in the Pole Vault with a new STATE RECORD vault of 12-7! Alissa Pudlitzke placed 8th in the 1600m and 4th in the 3200m; Her team-mate Emma Jenkins placed 5th in the 3200m; Jordan Davis took home a 4th in both the 100m and 300m hurdles. Our Girls 4 x 200m relay (Murata, Quade, Gray, Davis) placed 8th overall with a new school record time.
On our men’s side: Ryan Gunther placed 6th overall; Said Guermali placed 6th in the 800m; Adam Ryan placed 7th in the 400m with a new school record; Yacine Guermali placed 9th in the 3200m. Our boys 4 x 100m (Ephraim, Monarrez, Gunther, Zarcone) relay placed 7th with a new school record time and the 4 x 400m (Ryan, Zimmerly, Gunther, Guermali) relay placed 5th also with a new school record time! It was indeed a GREAT weekend to be a PAPERMAKER!
