Jaden Kim Honored by Local VFW

Magnet sophomore Jaden Kim debated the effort to reward ratio when he considered the extra credit writing assignment Mr. Greene offered in early November via the annual Volunteers of Foreign Wars (VFW) essay contest.  In the end, Mr. Kim decided it was worth it.

Little did he know when he submitted his essay that (besides getting the opportunity to reflect deeply on the role of our veterans past and future) his efforts would also earn him a $250 dollar honorarium for his 3rd place essay based on the following prompt: “American History: Our Hope for the Future.” Read more here.

Chang Wins Oregon Science Contest

Camas High School junior Monica Chang earned a first-place finish in the Oregon Bioscience Showcase 2017 Research Fast Pitch competition in Portland for her presentation, “A Closer Look at Memory: The Effect of Diurnal Rhythms on Perineuronal Nets.”

The junior was asked to work at a booth during a Girls in STEM event for middle school students, where she was teamed up with Barbara Sorg, a professor of neuroscience at Washington State University Vancouver. After spending some time with her, Sorg offered Chang an internship in her lab. Read more at The Columbian

Soccer Places 3rd at State

The Camas girls soccer team poses with the third-place trophy they won on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, after a 2-1 victory over Kennedy Catholic at the WIAA state tournament. Their 2-1 victory over Kennedy Catholic is the program’s third consecutive state trophy, a feat Perrin Belzer, the program’s only four-year starter, walked away proud moments after the Papermakers received the 4A third-place trophy at Sparks Stadium. Because third straight state trophies means third consecutive trips to the state playoffs’ Final Four.

Camas High School Band honored our veterans at Saturday’s parade in Vancouver, Washington, and they didn’t disappoint! Have a listen

The event officially is known as the 31st Annual Veterans Parade at Fort Vancouver presented by the Lough Legacy. The legacy is an endowment from Frank and Joanne Lough to support the Veterans Parade in perpetuity.

Swimmers Advance To State

Camas swimmers Bailey Segall, Paeton Lesser, Jessica Bretz and Madalyn Scherwinski qualified for state in the 200- and 400-meter freestyle relay races. Segall also earned first place at districts in the 100 butterfly.

Seven Camas and four Washougal girls swimmers are on their way to the state championship meet Friday and Saturday, at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. read more at the CW Post Record
