Green Initiatives at CHS

TREX Challenge – The Green Team will be entering the competition in conjunction with TREX decking materials for the 4th year! We will be collecting plastic film (examples below) and report our collection numbers to TREX each month – until Earth Day in April. If we win, we will receive a beautiful bench made out of TREX decking materials! When we start collections, if you have any of the listed types of plastic film, the Green Team would love to collect them. You can drop them off in room 803, 703, or the main office. This is a great way to recycle items that can’t be collected in your home recycling containers, and keeps excess plastics out of landfills. We have a really dedicated group of students who are determined to win this year, please help us surpass last year’s collection of over 1600 pounds!

Hot off the presses!

“Congratulations Class of 2018”

It was a fantastic graduation weekend – a celebration and farewell to over 500 of our students.  Putting together graduation is an enormous logistical endeavor – setup & takedown, parking & staging, speeches & sound systems.  Most all of this work happens behind the scenes helping make the moment extra special for each graduate.  Thank you everyone for your help!  It’s pretty amazing to see it all come together.

Graduations provide opportunities for students to address their classmates and inspire us with their wisdom.  Senior Alyssa Jackson spoke about her journey from trying not to be noticed to speaking at graduation sharing her realization that “I was never meant to be a wallflower. I was meant to bloom my heart out!”  Senior Erick Lake with dreams of being a teacher spoke about the importance of education. “The world around us is growing ever more complicated and the cracks are beginning to show.  Education is the gift needed to fill the cracks.”  – Superintendent, Jeff Snell
